The group brings in folks that are intersted in Catholicism and those already Catholics to discuss theology and some common misconceptions about the Cahtholic Church altogether while drinking, smoking and eating. This is a great way ( I believe) to stimulate good conversation in maybe, what was thought of before as an unlikely atmosphere. The Pub. This is why I have totally ripped off the idea and created Theology and a Pint. Shameless I know, but maybe we can intoduce some of the students and pubbies to a true christian atmosphere. She was a Christian who would not give up her faith to marry an unbeliever. She was tortured and killed by order of the Roman Emperor, Diocletian.
Stories of her courage were brought to Sweden by missionaries where she became known as the Lucia Bride. Old people said the Lucia Bride would go out early in the morning to bring food and drink to the poor. She wore white robes and a crown of light. There are many stories about her. Not all of them may be true, but they are exciting to read about.

In one story, Lucia showed great courage. She was to marry a man who was not a Christian. Women were supposed to bring a dowry with them when they wed - money, livestock or expensive gifts. But Lucia gave away her dowry to poor Christians.

The man she was supposed to marry informed the Romans of this and they came round to kill her. First they tried to drown her, but failed. Then they tried to burn her to death, then ran her through with a sword. The blood soaked her white gown. This is why present-day Lucias have a red ribbon round their waists. Another story tells how Lucia's Christian friends hid from the Romans in underground passages. It was very dark down there, and when Lucia went down to see them she had food in both hands. So she fastened a candle in her hair in order to see better. This is why the Swedish Lucia has a crown of candles. She often arrives with coffee and saffron rolls (lussekatter) as well.

According to a third story, Lucia was a Christian girl with wondrously beautiful eyes. A prince fell in love with her. He was not a Christian, though, so Lucia turned him down. To show her faith in God, she poked out her own eyes and gave them to the prince. He immediately converted to Christianity. Lucia was given beautiful new eyes by God. This is why Lucia is said to be the patron saint of vision.

St. Lucia Day is celebrated in Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. The family's oldest daughter wears a crown of candles set on a wreath. She wears a white dress with a red sash. On the morning of St. Lucia Day, she wakes up with the family just before dawn and serves them special yellow buns and coffee. They sing an Italian song about St. Lucia, a martyr was killed for her beliefs in 304 BC.

We are going to substitute the coffee for mulled wine and celebrate the event on the 13th before sunrise.

.

Celebrate Leif Eriksson Day

October 9, 1000 A.D. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said on "Sunday NFL Countdown." "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team," he said.

Limbaugh's comments, given on an ESPN sports show which aired on Sunday, are starting to be pushed into a media brush fire now on Thursday causing Limbaugh serious liberal burns . Wednesday started the call for resignations from the presidential hopefuls, Wesley Clark, Howard Dean and the Rev. Al Sharpton. Clark, a retired Army general, called the remarks "hateful and ignorant speech." And Dean, a former Vermont governor, labeled them "absurd and offensive."

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated," Limbaugh said in a statement Wednesday night. "I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret. "Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."

George Bodenheimer, president of ABC Sports and ESPN, accepted Limbaugh's resignation. "We regret the circumstances surrounding this," he said in a statement. "We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

Chris Berman, who anchors the ESPN show, said he did not believe Limbaugh's tone or intent was malicious. "As cut and dry as it seems in print, I didn't think so when it went by my ears," he said. "I probably should have looked to soften it. We're sorry we upset a guy who got off to a rough start."

That "guy" obviously being McNabb who agrees that he has had a difficult start and takes no "offense" to the comments on his talent only to the comment of special treatment.

McNabb said someone on the show should have taken on Limbaugh. "I'm not pointing at anyone but someone should have said it," McNabb said of the panelists, who include former players Michael Irvin and Tom Jackson, both of whom are black and former quarterback Steve Young. "I wouldn't have cared if it was the cameraman."

Now allegations are brought forth from a former maid of Limbaugh's about an alledged pill addiction to painkillers. The liberal media and politicians will probably try and dethrown Limbaugh high atop his EIB chair some way or another. It should be interesting to watch. I will leave this post with a comment from an Eagles defensive end, N.D. Kalu when asked about Limbaugh, "He speaks well, he's well-read, but he's an idiot."
.

Wal-Mart adds reptiles to its pet department but forgets about the cages.

The Do Not Call List

The list seems to be having some problems passing due to whether or not it is violating free speech. The paradigm in which I see this decline is the paradigm of America's favorite pastime. The aforesaid poll proposes a question somewhat like this: What is America's favorite Pastime? The people answer.
29% Football
13% Baseball
13% NBA
45% Other sports not important at this time

Undoubtedly, several factors could warp this poll's results. For instance, if the poll was taken during football season then the 29% could easily be explained by excitement overcoming novice baseball fans. However, baseball season is in its finest hour and football has just begun not to mention that basketball hasn't even started yet, so maybe that is not a good reason to cast doubt on the results after all. Well how about where the poll was conducted? If it were conducted in a predominately football based area such as the South-East or a predominately basketball based area like the Mid-West, then I think those sports getting a better than usual rating could be easily explained. However, Fox News Channel uses an outside company to handle their polling data (Opinion Dynamics Corporation) that uses the method of national polling and random calling. So maybe location shouldn't be called into play after all.

It could be that when baseball was the common pastime among Americans there was already too much contact and collision in society with WWI and WWII and so Americans retreated to a more calm and effeminate activity such as baseball. Today this pastime could be changing because Americans are tired of watching a conflict settled without contact. Barbarous? I don't think so. I think that America and particularly males in America are wanting a release in tension that can no longer be satisfied with baseball's gentle behaviour.

So is this the ending of an era or just an unofficial poll?
.

Random Questions

How can the Earth Liberation Front (an eco-terrorist organization) reak havic on local economies but not be taken as serious as ones abroad? What is your favorite thing about expecting a son?
I have a new “favorite” every day. Something new and exciting happens from moment to moment.
Right now I would have to say that it’s the anticipation, who will look like? what kind of personality will he have? I relish this time like I did my engagement, each stage of it, as I prepare for another big change in my life.

2. As someone who waitressed for several years, what advice would you give to other servers and what advice would you give to restaurant customers?
First to the servers: Everyone (and I mean everyone) goes out to eat because they’re hungry, which mean they are a little grumpy. Take everything that they say with a grain of salt. They aren’t attacking you personally when they get upset, most of these people just want good food, within a reasonable time and served with a friendly face.
To the customer: Don’t tick off your waiter (some don’t have any morals) and always wipe off your silverware.

3. Where is your favorite place to go in Monroe?
I would have to say Kiroli Park. When I danced we did our Spring Ballets in the park and I really enjoyed my time there. I wish I made more of an effort to go there now.

4. What are your five favorite movies to watch? (Not necessarily the movies you think are the most well made, but the ones that are your favorites to watch.) This is hard; I have never sat down and thought about this.
This is in no particular order.
Casablanca -is one of the essentials
Top Hat -Fred and Ginger are at their best in this one
My Fair Lady -it has the best, Julie Andrew’s voice and Audrey Hepburn’s style.
The Usual Suspects –I love Kevin Spacey in this and I never remember everything so each time I see it I’m surprised
Chicago –I know it’s crass but I always love to see someone belt out a song while dancing. I guess because I know how hard it is. This is in no way a final list. I’m sure I forgot a movie or two so this is not set in concrete.

5. What was the best thing about growing up in a large family?I don’t know where to start, I love being the oldest because I can boss and spoil. I have lots of best friends and someone to always hug my neck. This is not even hitting on how you have to learn to get along with a lot of people even when you don’t want to, learn to share and do it happily. Responsibility was a really big thing in our family, not just for cleaning your room but for taking the blame when it’s yours. That’s a real hard lesson. Besides all this, It’s just a lot of fun.
-JeniLiz

The New $200.00 Bill

You can see it here.
The bill was passed off in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. to buy $150.00 in groceries at a Food Lion by a perp who recieved $50.00 back. When I came into work today I was asked, "Did you know who died last night?" and just for a moment my heart dropped, until I heard, "Johnny Cash and John Ritter". The person talking to me sighed as if they actually knew the two celebs. I admit, it was a relief when I heard her say it was Johnny Cash and John Ritter. What if it were someone that I personally knew, someone I had a realtionship with? If I had fudged some kind of realtionship with either two while they were performing, then that realtionship will live on in syndication and on radio. Bush signed into law the Prison
Rape Elimination Act of 2003 today, marking the first time the U.S.
government has ever passed a law to deal with sexual assault behind bars.

One in five men in prison has been sexually abused, often by other
inmates. Rates for women, who are most likely to be abused by male
staff, reach as high as one in four in some facilities.

You'd think that this would have already been proposed. One in five men and one in four women are sexually assualted in prison! It is simply outrageous that sexual assualt can happen at such a high rate under such a controlled and supervised setting like that of prison. Its no surprise to me that law-breakers would inflict bodily and sexual harm upon other citizens, but I am very surprised that law-keepers do such a poor job in preventing this sort of harm. Sure, the highest courts in America should have The Ten Commandments as their foundation, as any other nation that wishes to uphold true justice, but to what effect should we fight for a monument of those Commandments? How long should we sit in front of the court house and yell, "put it back, put our God back" ? Have The Ten Commandments been removed from the foundation of our court houses? Good Stuff, especially Doug Powers definition of the left wingers at the beginning. I know it looks long but its worth the time.

© 2003 WorldNetDaily.com

Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion," about the last 12 hours of Jesus' life is months away from release, and is already controversial. We've also got an Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice facing fines or jail time for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments from the courthouse, and people continue to try to get the words "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. Just what is it about the Bible that drives left-wingers crazy?

When I say "left wingers," I'm speaking specifically about the far left. Those who spend inordinate amounts of time analyzing what you believe in, and not a single second on introspection. The people who try to eliminate any mention of God or Jesus in public places, but think it's perfectly fine to try and tell us that "Jesus was a liberal" via a sticker on the bumper their sloth-paced, battery-powered "savior of the ozone" vehicles – on public roads no less.

These are the kind of people who will burn thousands of gallons of jet fuel to fly to an environmental summit meeting, and "it takes a village" types who will gladly torch "the village" if they find out "the village" is using rabbits for medical research. The folks who decry violence in all of its forms, and yet are fully prepared to go on a hunger strike if the government doesn't give Ted Kaczynski his stuff back.

The way left. Terminal campus-dwelling know-betters with THC-clogged neurotransmitters who actually think Phil Donahue is kept off the air because of an organized conspiracy. Those leftists who sacrificed the better part of their lives just to get the FDA to have nutritional information put on the wrapper of a Snickers bar, and are positive that the real reason the dinosaurs became extinct was coconut oil. Those people.

A quick glance at the Bible, and it's not difficult to see why the tight sphincter of the left further asphyxiates that bug up their tuchis. The Bible is full of nightmares for leftist red-tape mongers and professional rule-imposers. Take these examples:

1) Moses parted the Red Sea without first performing an environmental impact study.

2) Jesus gave a Sermon on the Mount where he talked of giving to the poor, and spoke out against greed, and all without charging attendees $300 per ticket. (Barbra Streisand only).

3) The term "The Three Wise Men" is insensitive to the intellectually challenged. That should be changed to the "Trio of educationally advantaged amateur astronomers."

4) Instead of gold, frankincense and myrrh, they should have brought hummus, incense and a representative from Child Protective Services.

5) The Virgin Mary didn't first meet with consultants from Planned Parenthood.

6) Ten plagues and still not a single person thought of nationalizing health care?

7) Adam didn't ask Eve for verbal as well as written consent before touching her.

8) Of course Cain killed Abel. He was obviously suffering either from bipolar disorder, low blood sugar, emotional abuse as a child, or societal neglect.

9) "The trials of Job" were nothing. Try getting a job with nothing but a masters degree in Norwegian Art History – that's a test!

10) Too bad Greenpeace didn't have their own ark so they could have rammed Noah's Ark. You just know that, after the flood, Noah sold those animals to the circus.

11) The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah could have easily been prevented if they would have passed hate-crime legislation sooner.

12) Jesus is one of the greatest teachers in history, but isn't a member of the National Education Association. In other words, God uses scab labor.

13) David slew Goliath simply because he was unfortunate enough to have been stricken with gigantism.

14) "The Last Supper" didn't offer an option for people on gluten-free diets, and the fat content on the food was not labeled.

15) The part about Jonah and the whale becoming entangled in tuna nets is conveniently passed over in the Old Testament.

16) God should have spent the seventh day not resting, but rather going around putting warning stickers on all potentially dangerous, really pointy things.

17) What's the big deal about Nebuchadnezzar spending seven years ingesting grass? Heck, Woody Harrelson's done it longer than that.

18) The Bible mentions nothing about obtaining the necessary permits to build the Tower of Babel.

19) People lived to be hundreds of years old without prescription-drug coverage? I don't think so.

20) Jesus turned water into wine, which was not very mindful of those who happened to be teetering on the brink of plunging down the stairs of their 12-step program.

21) Of all the wealth possessed by King Solomon, the amount he donated to environmental causes: $0.

And the thing about the Bible that drives the left the most crazy? People can find salvation without their assistance.

Doug Powers is a freelance writer whose work has been read by millions of Internet denizens.

.

I don't know about ya'll but this brings me back to the days when I took baths with my brother (hint: look at the picture).

.

Have you ever gotten some form of itis? When I was a senior in highschool, for example, I got senioritis because I couldn't wait until the end of my school career. Itis doesn't make me itch but it does make me delirious. Every day (while under the itis) seems to float by like a little paper ship in the sink. Very, very slow going no where. I am feeling it again because on Friday we leave for vacation to the hilly country. We are going to a family reunion on Lake Catherine in Arkansas first, drive to the Ocoee River play in the water, then to the Great Smokies Moutains well actually here. Al Sharpton contended yesterday that newspapers and other media outlets are dismissive of his presidential campaign because newsrooms are overwhelmingly white.
"I think when you look at the lack of diversity in the newsrooms, when you look at the lack of diversity from the editors and those in power, then you see them as automatically dismissive of anything that is not like them, which is white males," Mr. Sharpton said.
"I think we've seen some very blatant racial insensitivity in the coverage of this race so far," Mr. Sharpton said in an interview with the Associated Press.
Mr. Sharpton complained that former Gov. Howard Dean of Vermont has been virtually anointed the hot candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 — a case, he said, of white-dominated media focusing on a middle-age white man.
He noted that many commentators have compared Mr. Dean to former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, both of whom were governors, without mentioning that both Georgia and Arkansas have sizable minority populations while Vermont is nearly all-white.
"No one has even asked about the fact that this surge of support has been really one-dimensional," Mr. Sharpton said.
In addition, Mr. Sharpton said he is often asked about how he can hope to lure white voters in key early states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, while Mr. Dean is never pressed on how he will appeal to minorities.
"When I come to Iowa, they ask 'How can Sharpton get the white vote?' " the minister said. "I've run [for governor] in New York and gotten more white votes in my races than he's gotten black votes in Vermont. Why aren't we talking about that?"
Mr. Sharpton shot to national prominence for his role in a series of racially inflammatory protests in New York City. He lost a slander suit for falsely claiming that a white prosecutor had raped Tawana Brawley. One protest ended in a fatal arson attack on a business he had been publicly boycotting over racial insensitivity.
Mr. Sharpton said former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, another Democratic presidential aspirant who is black, also isn't getting serious news coverage. "That kind of racial insensitivity has permeated this race," he said.
Mr. Sharpton was in Sioux City to join Sen. Tom Harkin, Iowa Democrat, in a series of forums Mr. Harkin is sponsoring to give the nine Democratic candidates a chance to make their cases with activists pledged to attend next January's precinct caucuses.

Why is it that Sharpton is so quick to throw the race card into every situation? If people are poor, its because the white man. If people are hungry, its because the white man. If Sharpton doesn't get enough attention, its because the white man. Blah, blah, blah. Sharpton is a big baby. I never heard Estrada throw the race card, Hispanics are the largets minority in America for goodness sake. (AP) - A 43-year-old man has been acquitted of child abuse for spanking his teenage daughter with a belt.
A jury took less than an hour Wednesday to find William O'Brien, of Naples, innocent of felony child abuse.

"I'm happy with the outcome," O'Brien said after hugging his wife and 14-year-old daughter.

O'Brien said he swatted his daughter, who was 13 at the time, once with a belt in May 2002 after she cursed at her mother.

O'Brien said he ordered his daughter to her room and warned her not to come out or he would spank her. After she stormed out of her room and slammed the door, he said he hit her once with a belt.

School friends talked the teen into reporting what happened the next day. She told a school nurse, who reported the incident to case workers with the state Department of Children & Families, O'Brien said.

O'Brien, a financial consultant, was arrested six months later.

Although prosecutors offered to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor, O'Brien said he felt compelled to fight the felony charge that carries a maximum five-year prison sentence and a $5,000 fine.

"I certainly think to not fight this would have set a bad precedent for parents trying to raise children in today's times," he said.

Defense attorney Donald Day said "the state did more harm to this child than the spanking ever did" by charging O'Brien and insisting on a jury trial.

Assistant State Attorney Steve Maresca said the state didn't think it could get a conviction without a jury trial. He also stood by the charge.

"Should you be able to leave a mark on a child that lasts a week?" he asked

Better a mark to last a week than an attitude that could last a lifetime. The Father of this 13 year old girl probably hasn't spanked enough if the girl cursed her mother, but at least he didn't back down to the "state".

.

Where's Jennifer

She is Here. Named after a gay San Francisco politician assassinated in 1978, the school will be funded jointly by the city education department and a gay rights youth advocacy group.

"Everybody feels that it's a good idea because some of the kids who are gays and lesbians have been constantly harassed and beaten in other schools and this lets them get an education without having to worry," Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters at his daily briefing on Monday.

But the head of the New York State Conservative Party said the school was a waste of tax dollars.

"This makes absolutely no sense," Long told the New York Post newspaper. "There's no reason these children should be treated separately."

The school's first principal is William Salzman, a former Wall Street executive who has recently worked as an assistant high school principal.

Salzman was quoted in Monday's New York Post as saying, "This school will be a model for the country and possibly the world."

It will specialize in computer technology, art and culinary programs. It will also follow the education department's new mandatory English language and mathematics programs.

I immediately thought that this was a clear sign and result of the Supreme Court overturning the Bowers v. Hardwick ruling regarding the Sodomy Laws and started yelling out, "What the hell are they going to put on the bathroom doors". I calmed down and begin to think. I soon began to think that this was a good thing, a purification of our public school system. Hear me out. First we get rid of the sodies, then we get rid of the Muslims, then we get rid of the atheist, then we get rid of all satanists, the feminists, the liberals and any other non-christian group. What are we left with? No Public School System and a universal Christian education system run by Christians. Sounds good to me. Give the sodies their own school, so we can have ours back.

.

Are you looking for an organization to join? I believe that he is displaying a small bit of character for at least acknowledging the fact that he has commited adultery. Sure he has been caught red-handed, no way out of the fact. He called his action what it was; adultery. Most athletes caught in this same position would not humble themselves as much even if they had been caught like Kobe. I admire Kobe to the extent that he has acknowledged he was wrong and seems openly sorry for what he has done. There is a lot more that can be said about this but I'll let any one else who is willing.

.

Well I guess I should put up our rating just in case we should be accused of not forewarning all the innocent people that stumble over our site.

What rating is your journal?
brought to you by Quizilla

Can you imagine about 29,000 bathtub toys floating in the ocean? We(man I'm getting a little carried away, I hope Phillip Morris Doesn't mind)could even flavor the dissolvable pouches in order to get the young ones hooked early and maybe if we had falvored pouches ladies would venture into the dip world as well.

.

Politics

Johannes Althusius:

Politics is the art of associating men for the purpose of establishing, cultivating, and conserving social life among them. The subject matter of politics is therefore association, in which those that live together pledge themselves each to the other, by explicit or tacit agreement, to mutual communication of whatever is useful and necessary for the harmonious exercise of social life.

The end of political man is holy, just, comfortable, and happy symbiosis, a life lacking nothing either necessary or useful.

Interpretation from the Big Swede:

So a true political man will have a pipe in one hand and a tankard of Guinness in the other. The liqour shower can double as a bachelor party or be replaced altogether with tools and called a tool shower(usually our Baptist brothers do this), but I do not recommend this because tools = work (the infamous honey-do list) and that would contradict the purpose of a liqour shower, which is to have the married man subdue his new bride with the affects of alcohol and take her mind off the work she needs him to do and put her mind on such things he would like her to do.

All this said, we are having a liqour shower tonight for a recently married gent. The frustration of not being able to play your favorite game brought people to desperate measures. Its when your machine got to be a little rusty and wouldn't quite work so you would blow on the cartridge and in the little slot to try and get things working. The relentless shaking, getting red in the face and light-headed for hope of one last fix.Well this guy has come up with a similiar method of getting things to work with his DVD player. B. Williamson had a chance at an over-the-fence-catch but lost control of the ball when his arm hit the top of the fence; having time to find the fence, he was able to make the catch with a second ball hit nearly in the same place and keep the opposing team at bay. Another out-field player, R. Carter made two, count'em two diving catches and halted runners on their way home. It was C. Oswalt hit to center field that keep us out of harm's way in the last inning; a pivitol one-hopper in left-center that nearly caught wind and flew out. After that we had the confidence to take the lead and sail to victory.
Next game is on Thursday. The community is predominately african-american and so is the university. Both city and university officals are known for their inadequate use of governing skills to say the least. Well while watching television last night Jennifer and I heard on the news that a Police Chief from Grambling State University had been fired by the President of the University. According to the Chief it was because he wanted a white man to be the assistant chief.

Where is the ACLU? Where is the National Association for the Advancement of White People? Well the ACLU doesn't give a damn about racial discrimination when your White and there is no NAAWP because, "that would be racist" . Equal oppurtunity tries to make a level playing field by digging a hole on the other side. If this were a predominately white city at a predominately white university then there would be rallies, parades and protests complete with Jessie Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton to dig a big enough hole to keep us in. All this does is give good, honest black people no motivation to accomplish anything on their own. You would think that the article would have boasted of a untouched, solid industry in Europe; afterall as soon as you can see over the counter you can buy any alcohol in most of Europe and Belgian and German and Irish beer are legendary, but instead the article said that beer sales have dropped and are falling. I think this is clearly a sign of economical difficulties in Europe when a man can't afford to buy his beer. Thank God for monsterous breweries and a low cost of manufacturing that the American market has produced.

.

AAPC Game 3 is tonight, care to make any predictions.

.

Simple Pleasures
These are some things that I learned over the weekend:
There is nothing quite as cheerful sounding than an ice cream truck going down your street on a Saturday afternoon.
There is more satisfaction in working hard and growing something edible in your garden than you ever expected.
And there is nothing more fun than snuggling 'till you fall asleep. -JeniLiz

I recently commented on A minor about anonymous posting.

"You know Mr. Anonymous is probably the guy who jumps in a fight just to throw a punch at someone when their back is turned or when they are laying on the ground and then goes back to his buddies and brags about how he kicked someone's arsh."

I suspect that their is something about face-to-face confrontation that makes people who post anonymously quiver and keep their mouth shut. Technicians sorting through the debris at Kennedy Space Center in Florida didn't open the containers of worms and dead moss cells until this week.

All seven astronauts were killed when the shuttle disintegrated over Texas on Feb. 1. Columbia contained almost 60 scientific investigations.

"To my knowledge, these are the only live experiments that have been located and identified," said Bruce Buckingham, a NASA spokesman at the Kennedy Space Center.

The worms and moss were in the same nine-pound locker located in the mid-deck of the space shuttle. The worms were placed in six canisters, each holding eight petri dishes.

The worms, which are about the size of the tip of a pencil, were part of an experiment testing a new synthetic nutrient solution. The worms, which have a life cycle of between seven and 10 days, were four or five generations old, Buckingham said.

The experiment was put together by researchers at the NASA Ames Research Center in California.

The moss, known as Ceratodon, were used to study how a spaceflight environment influences cell growth. During Columbia's flight, shuttle commander Rick Husband sprayed the moss with a chemical that destroyed protein fiber. He also sprayed the moss with formaldehyde to preserve it. Seven of the eight aluminum canisters holding the moss were recovered.

The experiment was put together by an Ames Research Center researcher and Dr. Fred Sack at Ohio State University.

"The cells were surprisingly well-preserved, but we're analyzing how useful it's going to be," Sack said.

Researchers said they don't know if the worms will still have any scientific value since they were supposed to have been examined and unloaded from Columbia within hours of landing

"It's pretty astonishing to get the possibility of data after all that has happened," Sack said. "We never expected it. We expected a molten mass."

PEPPER FACTS

BLACK PEPPER is a healthy addition to any diet. I wanted to get used to drinking a lot of water before I started the creatine in order to ensure myself I could consume at least a gallon a day. This was about a year ago that I decided to increase my intake of water in preparations for the creatine I wanted to take. Even though I decided against the creatine I have noticed a lot of differences in my health which I have concluded to be directly associated with the amount of water I drink. I have noticed that my blood pressure has gone down from border-line high to the low side of normal and that I no longer get slugish during the day. I also noticed that my appetite has slightly decreased to a normal level. Another thing that I observed was that I could consume more alcohol than usual which comes in handy around Oktoberfest or at a wine tasting.

Doctors recommend about 8 glasses a day with each glass being about 8oz I believe. I will usually drink about 3 to 3 and a half liters a day which is roughly about 100 oz a day. Here are some facts about water I found on the net:

Your Brain is 75% water - Moderate dehydration can cause headaches and dizziness
Water is required for expiration
Regulates body temperature
Carries nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body
Blood is 92% water
Moistens oxygen for breathing
Protects and cushions vital organs
Helps to convert food into energy
Helps the body absorb nutrients
Removes waste
Bones are 22% water
Muscles are 75% water
Cushions joints

I have noticed one side-effect thats a bit obvious but worth mention, you pee a whole lot.
.

Reality Shows are the big thing in T.V. land and a relatively new thing to American television, so are we now ready for a Reality T.V. Channel with all reality all the time?
.

So today is Saddam's birthday, there is a brush fire in Ohio and a buddy at work got a CJ-7. I don't have an extensive knowledge of fishing, but for the brim(roughly the size of your hand) the fight they give makes you think that you have a three or four pound fish on line. Usually when I go fishing and catch blue gill I cut them up and use them for bait because it was not my intent to catch them, but this time it was our sole purpose and we caught forty-five. Since this was my first time to fish for brim exclusively I have decided that I am officially spoiled and will never catch another blue gill again. When I hear Annie Lennox sing "Sweet Dreams" I remember car pooling back from school in Jackson with Dad driving and he turned it up so we could all sing along. Good times, good times. with that being said, I have been listening to music on the internet today (which is way cool) and I had first selected the '80s this morning. But this afternoon I have listened to the '90s wihich I have found that I enjoyed the most. It's not that I didn't enjoy the '80's music, I just really have a lot of memories that are connected to the '90s decade. Soul Assylum's "Misery"(beach sing-alonds at RYM) Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" the summer that Hollie, Lisa, Matthew and Ross and I would hang out all the time. These are just a few, of the many, songs that remind me of my fleeting teenage years that are getting further and further away. This is probably why I romanticise those years now. Even though there are a lot of those songs that I don't particularly like and would change the station if they came on, chances are that I know all (or maybe half) of the words to the song. So, as much as I thought that I was an '80s child I now believe that I'm a '90s as well. So when I'm feeling nostalgic and like reminiscing I'll sing, without shame, all the words to Lisa Loeb's "Stay" and even get weepy if I want to. - JeniLiz

Fri-Wednes-day

Since Friday is Good Friday my wonderful trashmen have decided to throw a wrench in my life cycle and pick the trash up on Wednesday instead of Friday. Usually I will take out the trash in the morning and realize that its Friday and associate a variety of things that go along with Friday. One of those things being that on Friday we always go to The Branson's for a movie and free food, another thing is the weekly cigarette that I enjoy with "Brannie"(notice I said weekly) after the food and show. Second of those things is the usual Friday crowd that will come to the bank to cash their checks and make their weekly deposits. I know them all by name and have interesting stories and jokes that we carry on between each of them every Friday. One of the guys, I'll call him Fred; is as country as acres on a farm and we enjoy asking each other how the week went and about each of our families. Fred recently gave himself a hair cut that is horridous and it is obvious that Fred cut it himself, he even left himself a homemade mulet. If this were Friday I would give him a hard time about his haircut, but its not so I don't even get to see the "homemade mulet."

Why is it that trashmen think they can go and mesh up poeple's life cycles? Do you know what happens on Wednesday.....Nothing. I am stuck with Fri-Wednes-day. I'm going to wipe dog poop on the trashcan handle now, see if those stupid trashmen mesh with my life cycle again. I needed physical contact, mental toughness, comradery and most importantly at the time, something to attract the eyes of young ladies. The only possible answer to my quest were sports because the debate team doesn't exactly draw 'em in. There were only three sports offered: soccer, baseball and basketball and since I was defintely not into wearing little umbros at the time soccer was out. I had played baseball before, but only in the "Y" had I played basketball and the highschool team was good, really good. I decided to pass on basketball after a couple days of try-outs and come back next year a little more prepared. I waited through the season until baseball finally arrived and jumped onto the team and was thrown to back-up third base.

I had reached a new level of baseball that was not like the Little League that I played at the "YMCA" these guys were good. I could no longer half-ass it, I had to play hard. I practiced and practiced and eventually got my way into the starting line-up, but when I got there I was smacked with reality because I didn't find it exciting, I didn't find the physical contact and even though it had an element of mental toughness and comradery it wasn't what I had expected or to the degree I needed. It was after that season that I decided that I would give up baseball because I couldn't find within myself the desire to play.

Last night we started practice for our softball league at the church and I began to reminisce about those highschool days when I was stuck on third base. I remembered the heavily shaded third base line that the ball would get lost in right before it would hit me, the throws to first and the run downs at the plate, warm-up before the game and the endless bags of sunflower seeds that would be exchange like currency in the dug-outs. If only I could have those things all the time I think I could find the desire I need for baseball. Unfortunately we live in a fallen world, but God has shown me mercy and given me softball. All the action and comradery a sixteen year old could ever dream of.

Do you ever get Fried Pork Skins confused with Packing Peanuts?

I realize I'm a geek, but man its fun.

I recently purchased a computer game called Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt with some left over birthday money. In the game you are responsible for taking out several Nazi artillery positions and troops to prepare for D-Day and begin the advance toward Germany. The game is hard enough on "easy" to make it fun, yet easy enough to accomplish all your missions and progress through the game. When I have reached a point in the game where I can stop my heart is racing and it takes me a few minutes to calm down, its better than coffee. I can not imagine the real adrenaline that would be produced in an actual combat situation but this and paintball are the closet things I can think of. Its not like I crave the killing of fictional characters in the game but it feels good to know that by taking the life of just a couple of fictional characters that I, as a fictional character can save the lives of thousands of fictional characters who now because of me live to die another fictional day.

Did someone say....softball season? All during the movie you experience the effects of War on the troops and their family. Of course their are going to be casualties of war and unfortunately civilians will die as well, we are dealing with a regime that hinds behind women and children. Its like going to a football game and watching a player run out of bounds and knock someone off their feet. They weren't in the game and didn't deserve to get knock off thier feet, but when they are that close to the action its a definite possibility. I am not saying that the civilians that are dying deserved to because they wouldn't leave their homes, but this is a war and when bombs explode they don't go for people only in uniforms. Civilians in this area must know that Saddam or his Republican Guards are in the area and should use discernment and get the hell out of Dodge for the time being.

Another point that needs to be raised is that our media(on a large scale) doesn't give a damn about the many unborn babies who don't get to see the light of day in America. They don't care about Christians all over the World dying to spread the Gospel. They don't blink an eye because they are not part of the agenda that has something to gain if a baby sees its first day or if someone accepts the gospels, yet if a civilian of a city under siege dies everyone is shocked and appalled that this would happen.

Its makes me mad when I see a report on civilian casualties. WE ARE AT WAR this happens so don't make it seem like such a horrendous thing. Our military is not getting anywhere close to putting the Iraqi people in danger half as much as their own leader is.

Tactics of a Tyrant and the Possibility of Weapons of Mass Destruction

Brooks showed images of an Iraqi military vehicle hidden under a bridge and a military base near a mosque and school. Also shown was communications equipment positioned in ancient ruins marked with the international symbol denoting it was a historical site.

Saddam uses civilians as a psychological barrier between our military decisions and the media coverage. He knows that the media will constantly report on the casaulties of the war and leave out the fact that with the civilians we also killed a hundred top military leaders. He knows that this sort of hypothetical situation will plague the military into a decision against trying to take out top military leaders in this example. If Saddam will endanger his civilians in such a flagrant way as to use them as barriers, then when the military says they have found 3000 chemical suits, gas masks and nerve gas antidotes in a former military base which is a hospital, you can expect Saddam is not afraid to use WMD that might cause harm to his own people and most certainly against our military. Whether or not Saddam will have the capability to launch any WMD within the next couple of days or if he will have the chance to do so can only be answered in the weeks to come.

This is something that my Dad sent me and I thought that it gave me something to think about. -JeniLiz

1) Christian patriotism historically calls for loving one's
country -- not a cheer-leading lap-dog for the government.

2) Why was it unconstitutional for IKE, JFK, LBJ and
Bill Clinton to order US troops to war without congressional
approval -- but its okay for George Bush?

3) Why was it 'Wagging the Dog" for Bill Clinton to start
wars against weak countries -- but not for George Bush?

4) Wouldn't you love "Homeland Security" under Bill
Clinton and Janey Reno? As far as WAR goes this one is being nipped in the bud and pretty much uneventful. Not that WAR is some form of entertainment or that we should want lots of explosions and casualities, but this "WAR" so far is a bit of a mystery to what really is taking place. I haven't been really glued to the tube this afternoon so something might have come about within the afternoon hours that brings light to some actual military accomplishments, but I've heard none so far.

What happened to the weapons of mass destruction we were supposed to go get from Saddam? Why haven't they used them yet? Did they really have them to begin with or was the Bush administration trying to prove something? Is Saddam alive, if he is what retaliation can we have to expect from him?
